Then. NOW. Next.

A creek comes back into view.

What daylighting Jordan Creek means—and what still needs checking before you visit.

Downtown’s next green space starts with water that was already there. Renew Jordan Creek is bringing part of the creek into an open channel, a process known as daylighting.

More than a new view

The city’s project overview describes roughly 1,000 feet of naturalized channel, with native planting on the surrounding land. Its stated goals include reducing flood damage, improving water quality, and supporting downtown redevelopment. Those are project goals, not a claim that flooding will disappear.

What has changed?

The project’s July 1, 2026 update announced that Boonville Avenue had reopened between Water and Mill streets after culvert, sewer, railroad-crossing, and roadway work. It also said landscaping and other work remained.

What comes next?

The construction page forecasts completion near the end of 2026. A construction forecast is not a confirmed public opening date. Check the project’s current notices and follow posted access restrictions before making this a walking destination.

Our next questions: When can people use the space, and who will handle its ongoing care? Those answers deserve a follow-up.
